It's too bad they can't hear you scream in space, cuz your screaming would probably one of gleeful euphoria if you were listening to Cut Copy's remix of The Juan Maclean's "Happy House". The original is one of the better tracks TJM ever released, but this facelift is highly welcome.

Hype and Music On My Mind
Far Away is the new single by Cut Copy that will be released digitally by Modular on November 24th. Some blogs are displaying their displeasure at the overkill of extra Cut Copy material released in the past year, but most have been looking forward to it. Mass Hyperbole has been waiting anxiously for this particular release, but it seems BIGSTEREO beat them to it:

So Far Away
Great news I will most likely take advantage of. Cut Copy just announced another, third, US tour to celebrate their albumn "In Ghost Colours."
"We're pleased to announce our final run through North America in support of "In Ghost Colours". This trek will be the last shows we do before we retire to the studio to complete the ideas swimming around our heads and in the laptops for the next record. We're thrilled to be playing a number of cities for the first time, as well as visiting some of the places we previously threw down with Black Kids and The Presets.
Joining us on this tour will be Brooklyn's own Matt and Kim (which should make for an amazingly energetic night), an awesome light show and a special surprise DJ.
We hope to see you there!!

The Last Summer Ever
"'To die for the Fatherland is the most beautiful fate'... The poilu, however, had a different view: 'The most beautiful fate is to live a long time and to be happy. Why lie?'"
--La Belle France
So we like Cut Copy a lot, but what can I say? These guys are hard workers. They inspire a work ethic in me. Because of them, I've been spending the past few days of the summer in the cafes studying for the GREs. Then, I look over next to me and a guy is studying for LSATs and I think to myself, sure, he's studious, but can he dance? Cut Copy's treatment of this Ladyhawke song is epic. It barely feels like a remix. See if you can get away with listening to this and not wanting to shuffle your feet.
Ladyhawke - Paris Is Burning (Cut Copy remix) (No longer available)
The ghosts convene when the temperatures rise. July 25th, Holy Ghost! and The Black Ghosts will play the Mighty in San Francisco. If you aren't spooked, I guarantee you'll be funked proper. July 26th, Hercules & Love Affair play at the Mezzanine. Could this possibly the greatest summer ever? Perhaps it will be our last.

Nyte Is Good For You
It turns out that Let There Be Night not only provides you with good tunes, we're also helping the environment with our new blog design. According to Blackle, a Google-based search engine with a black color scheme, computer monitors require more energy to display white than they do black. For example, given the amount of hits that it gets in one year, Google, in a black color setting, could feasibly save 750 megawatts per year. So, that means that every time someone visits our blog, we're displacing the equivalent of the energy that a blowdryer uses up in one second. Uh, right?
--Moebius
With lines like "There's something burning up inside/ I reach out for you and our hearts collide" and "I've been searching for a love alive/ Drowning in the silence as we walk the night," Cut Copy's vision of "Hearts on Fire" is a favorable one: poignantly describing those special nocturnal loves. But through the eyes of their Australian colleagues, Midnight Juggernauts, "Hearts on Fire" is far more dystopic. The trio coats the song with their distinctive space-age keyboards to derail the original meaning of the song, shrouding the happy lyrics in their apocalyptic world-view. Those same lines might equally describe disease, disaster, or a sole-survivng member of the world race searching the once bustling cities, now completely deserted and dead. How's that for détournement?
Cut Copy - Hearts on Fire (Midnight Juggernauts Remix)
After listening to the Together podcast by The Glimmers, my own heart was on fire for an obscure Belgian band's cover of Olivia Newton John's hit, "Let's Get Physical." Disko Drunkards are produced by fellow countrymen, The Glimmers, and I can't find out much about them. Still, this song rocks the dance floor as you can see in their music video, which features what seems to be video clippings of a 1980's super-awkward bar mitzvah. I went to a bar mitzvah once, and believe me, it was almost just as weird as this one. Let's get awkward!

Cut Copy
As an adventure, Thursday was an amazing day. Around 3:20 PM, Cut Copy sent out a bulletin that they would be performing in San Diego, for free.
We are all too familiar with "Bright with Neon Love," their seminal LP. We all know well the curves to that LP, the dips and corners, what's to be expected and what will be sung, our favorite songs, repeated to add-infinitum, and it is able to provide the same comfort every time. I'll be the first admit: I never gave Cut Copy a fair chance, a mistake many of us make with our fascist music regimes, or maybe I should speak for myself. Maybe not.
Early on, I was familiar with SebastiAn's first remix ever, "Going Nowhere," the "Whitey Remix" you could cry to when drunk, and the "Going Nowhere" remix that put Digitalism on the map in a big way. Besides these three songs, I never once gave the original material my ear. At an unimportant date, that changed, and there has been no reason not to love the music of Cut Copy since .
Because of the recent release of "In Ghost Colors," Cut Copy has consumed the I-Pod player at our drinking spot, and when word came that they would be playing downtown, I had to call those that gather at that drinking spot, and let them know of the news that had fallen into my lap.
For me, the "show" actually started 4 hours prior to Cut Copy's performance, across the street, at a Japanese restaurant. There, I kept bothering a couple about the time, out of fear of being late to the show; I was later informed Cut Copy would start at 9pm. The guy seemed to be a former meth user if not at the time; the girl was obese. I explained to him that I came downtown to see a great band play; in return, he asked me if I liked Slipknot and Disturbed. Just as I was leaving, I again insisted he should check out the Cutters. Funny too, my recommendation turned out to be an explanation that the excellent group from Australia was not "Cunt Copy," but rather "Cut Copy." Then after several more beers, I was befriended by three guys from where else but Australia. Light and comical conversation soon ensued, ranging from Van She, Miami Horror, Pnau, Knightlife, Midnight Juggernauts, Midnight Oil, wristies (hand jobs), The Presets, and of course, Cut Copy, and wristies. That was an experience in itself, and what better company to have prior to a Cut Copy show?
And really, besides the experience prior to the show, there's not much room to talk about Cut Copy. We all know who Cut Copy are, and if you don't, you should. Cut Copy did Cut Copy, and it was everything expected, unexpected, and of course, more. It was a necessary reunion, a small piece of heaven, sadly ephemeral. There in front where these guys who devised this music, arranged the harmonies, decided to be interesting but with style. Every moment was enjoyable, every song ending carried into a new surprise. Cut Copy made an excellent impression. The experience was very homey, and I can say I enjoyed this show more than I did enjoy the hype of 2007, Justice.
That said, here are a couple choice bits. The blog world has a lot of crap and hype floating around in it. Cut Copy are an exception to this rule. The temptation to post full mp3s from both albums is high, but we know that would be no fun. Head over to Modular or iTunes and pick up their new LP yourself, "In Ghost Colours." You will be satisfied, I'm confident in that. Trust me: I once recommended Cut Copy to a Meth head that liked Slipknot and Disturbed.

We Do Piknikz
So it's been a while, so I'm gonna try to make it up to you. Plain and simple, I've been (as I'm sure you have) bombarded by really good stuff lately, and I need to share some of my thoughts as well:
1. Jamie Lidell's new album Jim is out now, and it's pretty fantastic. He's gone less electronic and more Motown on us, and it works really well since his voice always had a soul element to it. As is always with the music I like, there are remixes so u can listen to what u like whilst shakin' ur booty. Lidell's single A Little Bit of Feel Good has been remixed by the masochistical melody master from Ed Banger, Mr. Oizo. Peep it:
Jamie Lidell - A Little Bit of Feel Good (Mr. Oizo Remix)
2. Three great albums i'm listening to right now:
- Cut Copy's In Ghost Colours - 5 years people have been waiting for this one if they were avid fans, but if you weren't one then you will be now. Amazing album, light, poppish, full of the cotton candy glaze a summer album should have, and so effortless it makes musicians wanna bonfire their instruments and call it quits:
Cut Copy - Out There On The Ice
-Pnau's self titled is kickin' my ass; I mean, maybe I'm that out of the loop, but these guys came out of nowhere to make kidzbop adult appropriate dance music that is simple and beautiful, on The MFA side of things:
PNAU - Dancing on the Water
-The Presets' Apocalypso is gonna be another Modular juggernaught this summer, but not in the same way as their aforementioned labelmates. They are raw industrial, somewhat cheese but only in the way that it's a compliment.
The Presets - Talk Like That
K this is all for today; I promise to be more industrious in the upcomin' weeks.
P.S. All the contributors from this blog will be together in Davis this weekend, hopefully we see some of our reader base.

Best of 2008?
Recently, Alex posted Cut Copy "Lights and Music," the single that was to ring the alarm for the new Cut Copy Album. He finished with the note, "I can already hear the remixes," but he spoke much too soon.
Boys Noize has dropped the distortion and gone for a more crisp feel, barely touching upon disco, and it feels so good. And that's to expect under the influence of Cut Copy and Philippe Zdar. Not too long ago Boys Noize put out the Feist Remix and people are liking the new direction since. Hopefully the year will continue this way!

No One Every Really Nose
Well, the horses are out of the gates and it's official: 2008 has taken off in full force. The death of Heath Ledger validates the fact that a new year has begun; the first celebrity death--and not without the sting of loss, poignancy and tears-to-be-shed. I can see the yearbook's first few pages with Ledger's face all over. Remember that day he died? We were socially conscious when he first came to fame in 10 Things I Hate About You. Though we were still young, we even got the Shakespeare reference. Then the movies continued and we grew, seeing what we could, hearing his name here and there, figuring things out meanwhile. The bells ring 2008 and to be sure Heath Ledger's found dead in his apartment surrounded by pills. Let the spectacles begin.
The month of January is almost over, can you believe it? There are already a host of things to look forward to in 2008. The latest Swedish singer-songwriter Robyn--often mistaken as English--seems to be making some waves. And it's about time. Robyn got her start in the early '90s when, at the age of 12, she recorded the theme song for the Swedish show Lilla Sportspegeln. At 16 she had written and recorded her own single and in 2005 she started her own label Konichiwa Records. Last March she gained some reputation with her single, "Konichiwa Bitches" and "Be Mine" and "Cobrastyles," not to mention the remixes that followed thereafter. Her The Rakamonie EP will be released on January 29.
Robyn - Be Mine (Ocelot Mtherfckrs remix)
Check out those Ocelot Mthrfckrs too! Robyn's EP includes her electric cover of "Cobrastyle." The original by Teddybears is equally as amazing--reggaeton lyrics and rapping with garage-punk-rock beats! Although there are some obvious similarities, the two songs are vastly different in style.
Teddybears feat. Mad Cobra - Cobrastyle
Robyn - Cobrastyle
Though Pharrell Williams has been popping up here and there (ie, as producer and featured on certain American Gangsta tracks), his sidegroup N*E*R*D has been lying low for about three or four years now. The trio--including Chad Hugo and Shay Haley--broke up in 2005, but will rise from their own ashes this spring with an album entitled N.3.R.D. (I wonder if it will have anything to do with C-3PO?). The first single, entitled Everybody Nose, was released just two days ago. It's kind of tongue-in-cheek, with the chorus turning the mundane into something danceworthy: "All the girls standing in the line for the bathroom!" The bass and sax are reminiscent of Eric B & Rakim, while not sounding very off from the latest Jay-Z and dancehall trends.
N*E*R*D - Everyone Nose
And I can't help myself. With the cute nose pun, I have to post a song that I listened to a lot last year. Because of the vaudevillian piano riff, the simple synths, the French accent and the absence of any real hard beat, I thought for sure this one was just a great '80s find. But I was wrong. Instead it was one of the most popular unerground techno songs of 2007! The song is great, and the lyrics are filled with sadness, nostalgie and beer. Everyone nose how that feels.
Nôze - Remember Love
Finally, once again from Down Under something big is coming up! Cut Copy is releasing their second album, In Ghost Colours, this March. Their first single "Lights & Music" is charming enough. Especially with the way the song fades, it sounds kind of like a high school dance song. I can already hear the remixes.
