Let's Paint This Town A Certain Color

Some music to send you out on your weekend boys n girls. Sorry I didn't keep you informed the past two days, but I hope this makes it worth it.

We start with a song by one of the true music blog breakouts, Keenhouse of Binary, part of a vibrant LA electro scene that reflects the brashness and attitude of the city. I've seen Keenhouse live (my friend tried to get an interview through his annoying live singer, a decision discouraged by me) though I can't say that I was there for him (I was there for College). Now Binary is releasing LA Lights, it's debut record, a compilation of songs from the label artists in order to kickstart internet buzz, so we'll help them out with the best track I've heard related to the record:

Keenhouse - Ari-es (Hemingway's Starlight Yacht Remix) (alt)

On a similar vibe, we turn our heads towards a regularly LTBN feature, Miami Horror. The producer from Australia has brought us a change but not entirely devoid of his signature sound. It shows good tact to go towards a more G.L.O.V.E.S.-ish , yacht-house, especially when he displays it so flawlessly. It still maintains the elements that made him so good, vocoder voice chirps, but adds some deep The Cure/The Smiths basses on there to go along with the synths.

Miami Horror - Sometimes (alt)

This next group, as mentioned by Discodust, is an enigma, but Joe Goddard isn't and he brings all his production dexterity to center stage. His remixes bring a coldness to it, being bold and dramatic in tone yet light and simple in structure. This one is definitely less dark and more boppy, though similar sounds exist. The faster pace makes the song bounce everywhere at faster paces than we are used to, which is welcome from Goddard.

Silver Columns - Brow Beaten (Joe Goddard Remix) (alt)

Finally, and probably the creme-de-la-creme, Lindstrom gets the treatment by dreamy nu-discoers Aeroplane, and it seems like a match made in heaven. While Lindstrom can escape into a different universe with his tunes, Aeroplane is able to infuse a pop side to their also escapist music. The drums, Nintendo-style pianos, and Christabelle's voice really makes this song vibrant, yet the hints of Lindstrom in there are felt as the song pushes past the 3 minute mark, with acoustic guitars joining the electronic melodies, even if by sound, it would seem difficult to distinguish between either of them, as both tread in familiar territories. Do enjoy this song, I know I am.

Attendance Required

Good shows coming up, folks. This weekend sees California receive heavy blog-world juggernauts in the electronic scene in preparation for the big bash down in Austin. For starters, this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Miami Horror will be showcasing his Aussie flair in SF, SD and LA, respectively. Tonight's show sees him pair up with the Cut Copy DJs at Popscene; tomorrow, my town will host him at U-31 for Feel the Noise, San Diego's favored electro-dance nite w/ DJs Gabe Vega and Saul Q; Saturday will have him with Futurecop! @ the Echoplex. There should be something to like for everybody here, even if it's not Miami Horror (shame on you if that's the case).

Just as interesting is tomorrow nite, as LA hosts HARD 13. An all-star cast of DJs, headlined by Boys Noize would warrant you being there anyways, but as if that wasn't enough, also playing are Shadow Dancer, Boy 8-Bit, Diplo, D.I.M. and Erol Alkan amongst others. You can take this moment to drool if you'd like.

2/3 of the members of this blog will be @ HARD 13, hopefully most of you who read this will be there, and if not then in any of the shows listed above. In any case, hef a fan thyme, cuz we know we will:

Finally, Miami is Horrifed

I've been waiting for so long and it's only a few days away now. To say Miami Horror's Bravado is highly anticipated is a disservice to the artist and to the work. The demo for Summerfest 86 often streamed in my computer, and the original Don't Be On With Her quickly became one of my favorite songs ever, not to mention the many remixes he's done (I'm gonna say around 15).

To get you psyched, I decided to post a couple of goodies I found at OhhCrapp: a widget with all of the songs from Bravado, and the awesomely nickaracadish video for Don't Be On With Her. Check it out:

Miami Horror - Don't Be On With Her (Official Music Video) from Moop Jaw on Vimeo.

And to get you guys even more hyped up here is his original Don't Be On With Her, as well as Summerfest 86. Enjoi:

Please support Miami Horror and buy this fantastic EP, I know I will.

BIRTHDAY

Associate writer Alehgzandurr Teplitskis turns 24 today. In other news, tommorrow will be hot, or cold. YOU DECIDE. No, but really. To say it in a similar way he did: it feels "awkward" wishing your friend happy birthday over the internet, but, well, Alex, Happy Birthday. By this power of suggestion, then, your day must be excellent. Do it big. I hope your night may be marry, or perhaps it already was. This time change business is heavy.

Onto music. The Presets are touring everywhere, and it is unfortunate I passed up on them when the swung by LA. "My People" live -- that must be something. Fellow Australian, Miami Horror used to put out better heat. First it was the excellent Stardust remix, then onto "Don't be on with Her." With no doubt, it can still be stated that Miami Horror is way underrated. Peeps need to represent, as Alex did on my birthday with the Grafton Primary Remix. Big cheers Alex.

They Don't Love You So Above You

As we all know, songs click into the gears of time; as the gears rotate the songs fall in the cogs and rotate with them. When we happen upon that same song moments, memories, friends and lovers who have come and gone, lost sentiments and hopes and dreams, all that that is nested in the cog is instantly recalled. Circumstances have that same power. Something as routine as walking home in the calm night, for instance, will conjure up all the cities, years and moments that you found yourself in the same situation. When you thought that the orange street lights were unique to this present moment, suddenly it reminds you of a previous walk you took alone three years ago in a city far away from the one you are currently in. Then, the sidewalk before you is no longer square cement blocks, but rather images of this or that year, this or that predicament you found yourself in at the time, or the themes of those walks that struck a chord in your life, no matter how routine they were. The German Shepherd that followed you in France, the stolen, stale white wine you took for the walk home in California, the girl you left, the light rain you took head on, the mighty tree you passed, the situations you imagined along the way, the songs you sung to yourself, the drunken and stoned visions you happened across. I find that if you do enough walking, at a certain age the walk home is no longer just a walk home; it is the elixir of memories. Similarly, at a certain point, a song ceases to be just a song, or a beat to dance to. If you play or hear it enough it becomes the walk toward the past.

Have I said it before? I tend to like any band that starts with Black... So it was just natural that I gave The Black Kids a chance. Judging from the amount of exposure they're getting on other mp3 blogs lately, they might be big stuff pretty soon, even though I don't think they've released an actual album yet. Here is my favorite on their supposed EP which I can't find anywhere.

Black Kids - Listen To Your Body Tonight

The thing about music of the 80s, in my opinion, is that one can boil it down to a select few synthesizers, themes and rhthyms. With the eighties revival still on the move, bands and musicians who know the equation of the 80s can gain quick notoriety. Miami Horror is one of those musicians, that DJ from Australia--Sydney I think--who remixed such upcoming-greats as Midnight Juggernauts and Codebreaker. He turns the newest songs into songs you are positive came out twenty years ago. This time he remixes a song by Grafton Primary, which is either one of the worst band names I've ever heard or one of the most creative names I've ever heard. Either way, this song is fantastic!

Grafton Primary - I Can Cook (Miami Horror remix)

It's an awkward way to do it, but I want to wish my good friend and business partner a happy birthday by posting one of my favorite pictures of him.
